father's day FREE printable!!!

Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad.
Fathers, a sons first hero a daughters first prince.
Blessed is the man whose quiver is full.

Sunday is Father's Day. Let's show all those awesome, selfless, caring men in our lives how much we really love and appreciate them. I am always stumped as to what to buy for my husband. But I've realized more and more that he doesn't need STUFF (although the stuff is nice sometimes) but what he really wants is some quality time snuggling on the couch with the kiddos or a nice dinner date. I think (correct me if I'm wrong Greg) that my husband would prefer an "experience" over another book, tie, cardinal gear, etc. I think he would prefer handwritten notes from the kids telling him what he means to them. I think he would prefer they spend some time with him rather than buying a bunch of items from the dollar store that he will just throw away.

I have collaborated again with my friend Kristin for Father's Day (and we're talking about possibly making something fun every month!!). She drew this awesome tree and the verse that came to mind was Psalm 1:1-3...Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked nor stands in the way of sinner, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does he prospers.

Wow! What a great message and what an incredible reminder for the men in our lives. I can't even begin to unpack that all but know that God is good and he is on your side. He loves you and the fathers in your life. Let those men know how much you love them with this beautiful (and FREE) printable. Then have the kids write him some notes as well and make a special dinner. Experience some family time and love on the man whom God placed at the head of your house.

This printable is FREE but please send your friends here to download their own copy!! We would love to see how you use these printables. Feel free to tag me on instagram or facebook @purejoycreative or #purejoycreative

long distance hug

Do you have kids? Do you live far away from your parents? Why not make this LONG DISTANCE hug to send to your parents from the kids for Valentine's Day. This would also make a great gift for mother's day or Father's day. I first posted this in 2010 when we got to see our parents once or twice a year. Now we live closer so the hugs are real. But I still think this would make a great gift!!

I don't remember where I saw this idea....maybe Family Fun, maybe not.
If you've seen this idea can you point me in the
right direction so I can give the proper credit?

For Valentine's Day I wanted to make something
fun and thoughtful for grandparents.
I saw this idea and knew it would be awesome.
Since we live so far from our families this was right up our alley.

Here's what I did:
I had the kids lie down on butcher paper and stretch out their arms.
Then I traced around their arms...
and a little bit of their body two times.
I cut their arms out of the paper.

I stamped their hands with child-safe ink
(basically that just means it will wash off easily)
onto white paper and cut their hand prints out.

Then I cut out a big heart for each set of arms.
I used double sided tape to attach the hands
to the arms and the heart to the body.
Wrote "I Love you this much" and called it good.

fathers day tshirts and gifts

After some thought and searching I came up with another Father's Day shirt  idea. The idea came from a printable gift tag that Lindsey from Inspiring Creations shared on Tatertots and Jello. I found the golf tee logo on google...and then added the kids first initials in photoshop and added the text. Printed it on iron-on transfer paper and called it good!! I also printed the label that Lindsey made and added it to some golf tees for Greg and my dad.

I do have a photo of the kids with Greg but it's still on my camera. The kids also filled out some surveys about Greg and they were so cute...Micah used the superhero one from Little Miss Glamour Toes and I had the girls fill out the one from Kinzie's Kreations. I also made a "back rub" shirt from The Blue Basket. I'll get a photo of that in action later too. Just wanted to document our Father's Day gifts.

Greg spent most of his father's day in a quiet house since after lunch the kids and I along with my parents drove to Sevierville, TN for a little vacation with my dads brothers and their families. We are enjoying our time away, although we miss Greg and it's raining! Blah! Oh well, we will continue to have fun spending time with family and try and get in as much swimming, mini golf and cards as possible!! Have a great week!!

Father's Day was also my dads birthday this year (it happens quite often) so for my dad's birthday I enrolled him in the "dessert of the month club". He picks the dessert and I make it! So excited to bake some new things too!! Feel free to share your favorite recipes with me!!

fathers day shirt ideas

5 years ago when Micah was merely 3 months old I started a tradition that at the time I didn't know was a tradition. But the tradition continues...and it's something I love to do. I have been creating shirts for the kids to wear on Father's Day, for 5 years! So let's take a trip down memory lane (maybe giving you some ideas!) Each shirt is linked to my original blog post so you can see additional photos!

2012 - I've got an AWesome dad

I'm still not sure what the shirts will be like this year but I do have one idea cooking...but if you have an idea I'd LOVE to hear it!!! Please! I need some help. It's hard to come up with something new and fun every year!!

And if you need some more ideas, head over to my pinterest Mother's Day and Father's Day board to see what I've pinned. I'll be sure to share photos of what we ended up doing for Greg's gifts in a week or so. I just wanted to get these shirt photos up in case you're still looking for ideas!

father's day

We had a great day on Father's Day! We got an unexpected visit from my parents the day before (which happened to be my dads birthday) and they stayed until Wednesday morning! So, not only did I get to celebrate with my husband but also with my dad!!! I took some photos of the kids in their Father's Day shirts before we went to church. You can see my tutorial on how I made these shirts here.
After church I wanted to get a photo of the kids with Greg...Hannah was not having it. She screamed and squirmed and Greg just put her down, you can see how she was having none of it...

But as soon as everyone left she crawled up on the bench and said "cheese". What a stinker!!
So, we had a beer-themed Father's Day and Greg said he LOVED it. He said these were his favorite shirts that I've made and I have to agree!! I loved going with a theme and hope to be able to do that again in the future!

The kids filled out a couple of surveys and drew pictures of themselves with dad...

This "simple." shirt came from the very talented Danielle at In Stolen Moments. You've got to check out her cute hand printed kids shirts too!!
I got him the things he needs to make two different 2 gallon "kegs" of beer.
And I made him this 10x20 beer poster. This idea came from an etsy shop, I just recreated it and sized it how I wanted it. I'm not selling it so I figured that was okay...right? I had it printed at my lab and mounted on 1/16 styrene...now we just need to find a good frame!

Greg loved the beer themed Father's Day and I loved being able to show him how much we love him as a daddy on his special day!!

father's day shirt ideas

Well, it's been over two months since I've blogged here...I'm hoping that will change. I have stories to tell, crafts and projects to share and cute kids to talk about! So, let's start off with a little Father's Day t-shirt tutorial!

5 years ago when Micah was merely 3 months old I started a tradition that at the time I didn't know was a tradition. But the tradition continues...and it's something I love to do. I have been creating shirts for the kids to wear on Father's Day, for 5 years! First let's take a trip down memory lane (maybe giving you some ideas) and then I'll show you what I've made for THIS Father's Day! Each shirt is linked to my original blog post so you can see additional photos!

2012 - I've got an AWesome dad

This years Father's Day is all about beer...seems kinda strange since the kids are the ones "giving" the gifts right? Well, I needed a good excuse to get Greg some of the gifts he's getting and didn't want to wait till Christmas! Since I didn't want the kids wearing some sort of "beer" logoed shirt, I decided to go with root beer, and what better root beer than Greg's favorite A&W. I first saw this A&W idea on Nothing But Country's blog and downloaded the printables last year knowing I'd use them at some point.

Here's a tutorial on how I made the shirts!!!
Step 1: I went to the A&W website and downloaded their logo desktop photo to my computer and then got to work personalizing it. I changed the "since" date, added "dad" to the bottom, used the "esome" from the free printables on the original logo and then added "I've got an". I printed out my new logo and got to work.
Step 2: First I taped the logo to my window and then taped my prewashed fabric right over the logo. I traced the logo with my pencil three times (one for each kid)!

Step 3: I ironed some freezer paper onto the back of the fabric so that the fabric would be more stable while I painted and also so that the paint wouldn't bleed through onto other surfaces.

I used paint that was made for fabric. Yes, you can use acrylic paint (and I have in the past) but it cracks much more easily and it becomes pretty hard on the fabric...but in a pinch it will do. These bottles of paint cost $1.50 each at JoAnn's...

BUT, this four pack of fabric paint cost me 97cents! I could hardly believe it when I saw it and bought two different packs! So I ended up buying 8 colors for less than the price of the two colors I really needed! but don't worry, they will get used!

Step 4: I started painting the fabric pieces and painted the color with the least amount of coverage first. I painted the same color on all three shirts at a time.

Step 5: Paint the gold part of the logo. There was no "gold" so I had to mix colors and come up with one. It's not perfect but it'll do. That's the charm of a homemade gift right?
sorry about the lighting here and color distortion!

Step 6: paint the brown. I didn't do two coats on the brown but probably should have. I did do two coats of paint on the other colors. I just made sure to get really good coverage with the brown the first time!

I'm going to try and go back and erase my pencil lines (I hope it works).

Step 7: I carefully cut out the logo right on the outside dark brown area and then removed the freezer paper.

Step 8: Iron on double sided fusible web
I found that if you put the top piece of paper back over what you are ironing you won't have anything stick to your iron and you won't have to cut anything out...the iron will melt  the areas you don't need.
Step 9: Iron the logo onto my brown t-shirts for the kids. If there are little pieces of the fusible web your iron will just melt them away! You may have to clean your iron when you're done but not a big deal!
Step 10: Sew around the edges of the logo to prevent it from falling off! (I still need to do this step!)
Step 11: Put the shirts on the kids and take cute pictures and surprise daddy at church!
The littlest one wanted to put it on right away...so I obliged and took a few photos...but then she didn't want to take it off!

I can't wait for Greg to see the shirts! I think he's gonna love them. And you better believe I'll have photos to share! I would tell you everything that I've got up my sleeve for Greg but on the off chance that he stops by here before Father's Day I better not...just in case!

I will be having the kids fill out one of these questionnaires about dad! And if you need some more ideas, head over to my pinterest Mother's Day and Father's Day board to see what I've pinned. I'll be sure to share photos of what we ended up doing for Greg's gifts in a week or so. I just wanted to get these shirt photos up in case you're still looking for ideas! Have a great weekend and we'll see ya next week!
