independence day
Happy Independence Day! Every year this field of flags can be found downtown and every year (well the three we've lived here at least) I said I wanted to take the kids there and take some photos...and this year we did!
Thank you to all the military personnel and their families. We are the land of the free because of the brave. Thanks for your sacrifices and willingness to fight for our freedom. We know our freedom in the this country is not really free. But our freedom in Christ is FREE!!

cloud 9 pj's
I was so excited to be able to test another pattern for Amy from Peek A Boo Patterns, she has such incredible patterns. This time I got to test the Cloud 9 Vintage Pj's. The girls are in desperate need of some summer pj's so this pattern testing came at the perfect time. The pattern is easy to follow, easy to sew and super cute!! I didn't have any troubles. I used a cotton fabric for the top of the pj's and I used a sheet that I found at Good Will a long time ago. I have been holding on to this sheet for a perfect project and this was it. I loved using the sheet because then I didn't have to hem the bottom and it makes the pj's lightweight and super comfy. I didn't get to make Hannah and Abi's pj's yet but I will soon. Naomi loves her pj's and wears them every night (unless they're still in the laundry basket which does happen!). I can't wait to make more of these pj's and just some other great dresses for the girls from the Peek A Boo Patterns. I love them all!!

The girls Easter Dresses were another one of Amy's pattern....it was the Avery Cross Over Party Dress. And I have more ready to be sewn together. I hope to show the Maui Muscle Shirt soon that I made for Micah. But as you can tell...blogging is not my strong suit in the summer! I'd rather be playing or sewing or painting or photographing!

six months late
Life just doesn't slow down does it? And that's okay. But it went by so quickly that I forgot to take photos of my girls on their birthdays....six months ago. Usually I get to their photo sessions about a week or so after their birthdays...well, I must have slept through all of October, part of November and then blanked out till now because it never even occurred to me to take their photos (close to their birthdays). Maybe it's working part time...I just want to collapse when I get home. Maybe it was the colder weather this winter. Maybe my brain is still hibernating. Maybe it's having three birthdays and an Anniversary in the same month. Not really sure but I finally took some 3 year old photos of Hannah (even though she's 3.5 years old by now). I still need to get a good session of Naomi and Abi and Micah's will come soon too although luckily it'll be closer than six months after his birthday.
It's not Hannah so much that I'm bummed about (she has changed some that's for sure) but Abi...she has changed SO MUCH in these past six months and I don't feel like I adequately captured her as a one year old. Yes, I have a few photos but not a good full out session. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to do her 18 month old session before she's 19 months old at this point. Anyway, here are some of the photos that I snapped of Hannah yesterday. Oh and what sparked all this? What made me realize I never did their birthday photo sessions? It was the dress. The dress Hannah had on was the same one Naomi wore for her 3 year old photo session! So I grabbed my camera and captured fun little spunky Hannah at 3 and a half years old.

And here are a few of Naomi in the dress when she was three!!
It's so fun to see what sort of "mood" my photography took in the past...
Guess what Abi will be wearing when she has her three year old photo session!???

turning six - bleach t-shirt tutorial

Every year for the kids birthdays I make them shirts with their age on it...this year was no exception. However, this year the shirt was the easiest I've ever done. And you can do one too...even if you claim you're not crafty. ANYONE can make one of these shirts! Here's a few simple steps.
What you need:
Tshirt
Scissors
Freezer Paper
Iron
Bleach
Spray bottle
cardboard
Put some cardboard into your shirt. Then lay the freezer paper on top of your shirt (shiny side down). I roughly traced the outline of the shirt so I would know where I wanted my letters to go. Draw your letters or design and then cut them out. You're basically making a stencil. Then once it's cut out iron the freezer paper to your shirt (shiny side down). You don't want to do a detailed design with this technique because it won't turn out well since the bleach tends to "bleed" a bit. Then with the bleach in your spray bottle just spray the bleach into the cut out area. Let it sit for a little bit while the bleach does its magic and then take the stencil off and spray just a few random sprays to add to the "grunge" effect. Then rinse the shirt once the bleach has done it's magic (or wash it in the machine I just didn't have time) then dry it, wrap it up and call it good!!
We are giving Micah the shirt, some printer paper, markers a new bat and some baseballs. He's taking some grain-free cake doughnuts to school for his classmates and I'm still working on his strawberry cake!
Can't wait to celebrate our special little man!!
Here's our most recent family photo from our trip to the safari park on Saturday. We had a blast there and I will share some photos of it soon!
