date the alphabet

Thursday, September 02, 2010
Greg and Naomi are dating the alphabet.
Each month on the first of the month (since her birthday is on the 1st)
he takes her to a new place that starts with the next letter of the alphabet.

August 1st he took her to Applebee's.

September 1st he took her to Billy T's.

October 1st will bring a C place
and it doesn't have to be a restaurant,
that's just how it happened to work so far.

I love this idea and hope to start doing this with Micah soon.
In fact while Greg and Naomi went to their "B" restaurant
Micah and I went to a "P" restaurant...yeah, we're just rebels aren't we?

I think it would also be fun to change the date of when you
go on the alphabet date.
So one month you do the A on the 1st
then the B on the 2nd
the C on the 3rd
the D on the 4th
and so on and so forth.

But it also makes sense to do the birthdate too.
I love that it's going to take over two years...
there will always be something to look forward to!
I'm going to make an Alphabet scrapbook
for Naomi and Greg too of all their photos from their dates!

We think its so important to spend one on one time with our kids.
It's good for our relationship with them and
we hope its something that they will always look forward to...
and once they get older and we keep doing this,
it will be a great way to teach them things about dating
and hopefully they'll be willing to talk with us and open up
about things that are going on in their lives while we're dating!

I think that is an absolutely adorable idea!

That is a great idea. What a wonderful bonding experience for them. I will be suggesting this to my hubby and brother (although with 5 kids it may be a little more difficult).

It has been something I look forward to, and you should hear our rather intersting conversations.

But...

There is a more serious motivation for this activity (which Naomi has no idea about, and doesn't need to). Over years of having her father take her out on dates, she will grow to have certain expectations of those future suiters who would like to take her on a date. I look forward to the day when Naomi comes home and says, "Could you believe this guy, he didn't even hold the door for me...and he didn't pray before our meal. He won't be getting a second date!" And I'll just be thinking inside, "I wonder where you ever got that idea."

But truth be told, I would do it even if it were just for our awesome time together (and I get to eat some good food too!).
