the gym, habits, bread and cute kids
Oay, so you may remember this post about our families friendly biggest loser competition and you may remember this post about joining the gym. I figured it was about time for an update...so here goes.
I am actually enjoying going to the gym. Gulp! Did those words just come out of my mouth? I don't look forward to it everyday and sometimes I have to make myself go but once I'm there it's actually not that bad. I really wish I had a personal trainer so that I knew what to do in order to reap the biggest benefits. Anyone wanna chip in an purchase me some PT hours?
Anyway, we go at least three times a week and usually right after breakfast. I go get my shoes and Naomi says, "I don't wanna go to the dym", but I tell her we're going anyway. She loves it there, don't let her fool you. She gets to play with other kids and they have a slide there, she loves slides. Micah is doing better too, he may protest me putting him in the carseat but once we're inside and he sees the "stairs" he's hooked. Today when I went in to get them after working out I found Micah on the bottom of the slide on top of a little girl, she was lying down as if just having slid down and it was like he just climbed up on the slide on top of her. They were both laughing and having a good time, so I guess it's okay.
My workouts are different every time. I read somewhere that if you do the same thing every time your muscles get "complacent" (my word) and don't work as much. So, I walk for 30-40 minutes on the treadmill and then lift weights for about 20 minutes. I have started to run more on the treadmill too. If you know me well you know this is a HUGE accomplishment for me. I am NOT a runner. I only run when being chased. So I started out small. Walk 15 minutes, run 1, walk 1, run 2, walk 2, run 2, walk 1, run 1 and then up to three minutes running. Today, I ran for 11 minutes without stopping. Mind you my run is probably a jog for most people but it was still running for me. So, it made me feel good anyway.
I know that I'm not going to be where I want to be in order to win the competition in July but at least I'm actually starting to get some of the healtier habits in place and I think that was the whole point of the competition.
After the confession post Greg and I have had some great conversations. One thing that came out of those conversations is the accountability thing. We really have a hard time being consistent and keeping each other accountable is not always the best thing for us. So we decided it would be best if we could see what we were and were not doing every month. So on our calendar we have five different colors for the five most important things that we wanted to change.
Each color represents a specific task and when we complete the task we write our initial on the calendar for the day in the specific color. It's not as complicated as it may sound. So we mark a red "X" when we do our Family Devotions. Orange is for personal devotions. Green is for getting out of bed by 7am. Blue is for going to bed by 11pm and Purple is for exercising. It's really good to see very clearly what we are doing each week and what seems to be getting neglected. Since we're getting up at 7am I am able to take time for my personal devotions while Greg hangs out with the kids if they're up before he goes to work. This makes my whole day SO much better. I'm not going to lie and say I do this everyday but it is much more often now than it ever has been. So, let's just pray that these good habits continue and the old ones die hard.
Next task...eating better. I'm starting slowly. Very little soda. No more chocolate during nap time. That was by far my biggest weakness. I would just sit down at the computer and pig out on sweets while the kids were napping. No one could see me so I figured it wasn't a big deal. But really it wasn't helping me. So, now I drink crystal light instead and just try to forget about the sweets. The eating healthier thing will be my biggest challenge but I'm trying to do something everyday that will benefit me in the long run.
In other news. Naomi and I baked some banana bread today. You can find the recipe here. It's super yummy!

Just a shot of me and the kids.

That's all for now. Sorry this was so long. Get back to work!

accomplished
The kids were awake early again this morning. This is seeming to become a habit. I know that for some people with kids what I call early would be called sleeping in. But when you're used to kids that sleep till 8am and sometimes 8:30am, 6:30am is early. It's Micah that is waking up early and thus waking up Naomi with his talking...and screeching as of late. So, I took full advantage of the early wake up time and got some things accomplished.
Kids dressed
Micah fed
Showered and dressed
Laundry started
Dishwasher emptied
Counters cleaned off
Pictures loaded on Computer
All before 8am! Ahh, what a way to start the day.
In other news. Did I ever tell you who won my family's Biggest Loser competition? Greg won for his family and Catherine won for our family. Was there any doubt? She gave birth to baby Lily and then three days later we started the competition. But we all went into the competition knowing that so I guess it's our own fault!
We are doing the competition again with Greg's family but for a longer period of time. We started on Saturday and will have the final weigh in when we're all together in Hot Springs, Arkansas in July. So, I'm hoping to join Gold's Gym...if it fits in the budget. I really want to win!!! and just get healthier and in better shape...and fit into clothes better too, really who am I kidding! Wish me luck and weight loss!!!

biggest loser
We have a winner for the T family. The final weigh in was on Sunday morning. The winner who lost 6.49% of their body weight was...
Greg!
Congratulations honey! I'm so proud of you. I came in third...but don't get any prizes...except that some of my clothes fit me better now and some are too big. So, Greg will get $50 from the T family. We will have the final weigh in with the P family on Dec 30th. Wish us luck!

a few things
I have just a few things to share and then I'm going to bed. Man, this time change has hit me hard this year...and a few days later too. Did it affect anyone else or is it just me?
Anyway, the other day Naomi was helping me with the laundry and then she decided to climb in the basket and take a nap. I wonder if she remembers sleeping in a laundry basket when she was only a month old...yeah right. Oh and that is not the laundry basket that she slept in as a baby, that one was a little bit nicer :).

Micah is no longer a "put him down and he'll stay there" baby. No, he's not crawling yet but the dude can roll. I don't remember Naomi rolling over as much as Micah is. He rolls every which way and can get his legs under him a little bit. He's also trying to push up with his arms and starts moving backwards. He's fun to watch. It's funny to because I'll put him down and leave the room and when I come back he's someplace else. I guess I really need to pay attention to where I put him down now. "Has anyone seen my kid?" ha, just kidding!

Our families have a little friendly competition going on. We've decided to have a Biggest Looser Competition with both sides of our family. So we started with the initial weigh in on Nov. 1 with the T family and Nov. 3 with the P family. Everyone is in for $10 and the person who looses the biggest percentage of weight wins all the money. Greg and I talk a good talk and always have these high hopes of eating better and exercising more but we can never really get motivated. THIS has motivated us! We're excited that it's about two months too so that we can really get into some better habits. So far, I've lost five pounds!! The only unfair thing is that on my side of the family Catherine JUST HAD A BABY!!! so she has an unfair advantage! just makes me want to work harder!!! Wish us luck...and post some motivation and encouragement too!!
Okay, so I know I said I would post pics from the craft fair and I still plan on doing that but I just want to do something with the pics first because I have SO MANY to share. So, hang tight, I promise before next week is over they will be up. How was the craft fair you may ask? Well, it stunk! I sold one set of cards (to a lady from church who lives in my neighborhood) but had to pay for the table too, so I made $5. Amy only sold one clip and her sister, Mary, didn't sell anything. Everyone oohhed and aahhed over the stuff, but no one bought! Bummer. But I did pass out some of my business cards! Anyway, the picture below is from the other day when I was taking pics of my product to show you, Naomi wanted her picture taken too. So, first she said cheese and smiled nicely. Then after I took more product pictures she asked me again to take her picture and this is what she did.
She just sat there with her eyes closed. What a stinker. She thought it was pretty funny.

Tomorrow is Joshua's baptism and I'm doing a Senior photo shoot. Tuesday the kids and I are headed to Waco to see Kristin, Liam and Silas!!! SO EXCITED!!! Take care, see ya soon!
