hand printed fabric

So, the story goes...I entered a few giveaways during Sew Mama Sew's giveaway week a while back. I won something too!! This adorable little stuffed house and book!! Super cute. Hannah's going to LOVE it!

So, because I won that giveaway I also started following BuzzMills on facebook. One day I noticed that she entered a handprinted fabric swap at Maze and Vale...so out of curiosity I decided to check it out. After checking it out I decided that I wanted to join in. Mostly for the challenge. I thought and stewed and searched trying to figure out what to make, how to make it and when to make it.

It finally came down to the wire (as do most of my projects) and I needed to get the fabric in the mail. So, I thought over it one more time before just getting to work. I picked out my colors and a few random circular objects from around the house and got to work. First I ironed some freezer paper onto the backs of the fabric pieces so that it wouldn't move around when I started printing, and then I just started printing. No pattern in mind really (at first) but then I just got to doing what I wanted to and made some very basic circular designs for my fabric swap partners. I am seeing HOW basic my fabric is when I am getting pieces in the mail from them (two from Australia, one from Canada and one from the UK). This is my first hand-printing attempt but obviously not theirs. I am still waiting on one piece of fabric to arrive but when it does I will share all the goodies I've received.

Here is my first attempt (won't be my last) at hand-printing fabric.

I used fabric paint, a cork, the end of a foam paintbrush, the bottom of a baby item (hard to explain what it is) and a yogurt container for the circles!

So honestly, what do you think?
