question for mothers

Friday, August 31, 2007
Okay moms out there explain this one to me! Why do we try and catch things that are coming out of our children's mouths? Why don't we let it drop to the ground. We can clean it up from there just as easily.

The other night Naomi had too much to eat in a short amount of time. She was laying on my belly and snuggling before going to bed. She pushed herself up and out came the stream of white puke (cottage cheese and milk for those interested). What did I do? Stuck my hand out like I was going to be able to catch it. Why? That's so gross. It was all over my left side, shirt and shorts soaked...yuck...all over the couch and the rug...yuck. So I put her down so I could clean up a little bit and what does she do? You'd think she'd start crying or try to play in the puke but no she just sat there, pointed at it and laughed. Yes, she laughed. Oh the nerve! I got changed and threw the cottage cheese soaked clothes directly into the washing machine and my laughing little puker went to bed. But really, why do we try to catch things that are coming out of their mouths? Next time I'm just going to hold her over the carpet and let her puke. It's easier to clean up and then I'm not soaked with it too. Sorry if I grossed you out. I just want to know what makes us do that?

Or am I the only one???

I'm not sure why we do that... but I did the same thing last night. I was nursing Matthew and all of the sudden he just kinda took a little break from sucking. Then, just as suddenly, proceeded to spew the same cottage cheese substance all over me, himself and the pillow. I started screaming "Scott! Scott!" It scared the crap out of me. It was everywhere. I was trying to do the same thing - catch it. I didn't know the child's stomach could hold that much - he's only seven weeks! I'm glad I wasn't the only one cleaning up puke last night. Love you!

Jamie - I will never forget the time Emily was not feeling good. I was dancing with her and spinning her around. She was probably about 9 or 10 months old. She started shaking her head no, but I just thought she was being silly. The next thing I knew she threw up all over me - and since I was spinning her around, it flew all over our living room. YUCK!
